God and Sex

I have often wondered what the connection between God and Sex is. There is one, for sure, but what is it? Most faiths that exist talk about abstinence, maybe they have evolved this way, being a way to get closer to God. May it be Islam, Christianity, Sikhism etc. But then I have also come across Hinduism, a philosophy that initially had Brahma, Vishnu and Mahakali as the trinity. Mahakali - the goddess of time! The Goddess of creation and destruction. The epitomy of beauty. Somewhere she is depicted as a fierce looking lady with severed heads in her hand and under her feet.

The sexual union between Mahakali and Mahakal, who the former produced out of her own body, is Tantra. The study of the sexual energy - the life force responsible for our spine to remain straight beside a million other reasons. This sexual energy that we are aware of as the kundalini situated at the base of the spine is quite the sterring wheel for us.

With Gods like Lord Krishna, the player of maya, and the icon for sensuality, it is but very natural to have these experiences. And Shiva and Parvati as the form of shakti. Ardhaneshwar. Completeness, Yin and Yang, duality.

In that case, is it perverse to have visions of God, of deities every time one thinks of sex? Or vice versa. It's happened to me on more than one occasion. And I have often wondered as to why it happens. Its no longer about sex. Or is it about God?*
